Schleching

the Chiemgau with all its facets

Schleching, which belongs to the district of Traunstein, is nestled in the Chiemgau Alps, south of Lake Chiemsee. Located in the Achental valley, at the foot of the Geigelstein, we are surrounded by the typical pre-Alpine landscape – lush meadows, forested pre-Alpine peaks and the typical summits of the northern limestone Alps. The area around the Geigelstein, now a nature reserve, is known for its biodiversity. The area is characterized by alpine pastures, rivers, waterfalls and three nature reserves. Achental and Schleching attach great importance to sustainability and have already won several environmental awards with their eco-model. Schleching is one of the official mountaineering villages. The Achental valley is a true hiking paradise. Here you will find hiking trails for all ability levels. Climbing – cycling or mountain bike tours can be found at all altitudes and for every taste. The Achental is also the ideal starting point for all kinds of winter sports. In the official 2017 Mountaineering Villages brochure about Schleching and Sachrang, you will find lots of helpful information about the region, nature and routes.

Green community

Schleching and the Achental

The municipality of Schleching on the border with Tyrol is located in the middle of the Achental (approx. 569m above sea level) and is surrounded by high mountains. The most noteworthy are the Hochplatte, Hochgern and of course the Geigelstein – which is also called “flower mountain” because of its vegetation. The impressive fauna and flora of this area stretches from the valley floor, over the high pastures to the mountain peaks. Capercaillie and black grouse, chamois and red deer, marmots, wallcreepers and other rare animal species are still at home here. Various types of gentians and orchids characterize the landscape, of which the people of Schleching are so proud. The natural areas include not only the nature reserve around the Geigelstein or the breakthrough valley of the Tiroler Achen, but also e.g. the high moor Mettenhamer Filze with its litter meadows, the Raitener Flutried with its blue iris blossoms in June and many other beauties, such as alluvial forests, humpback meadows and pastures. The people here attach great importance to protecting and preserving this habitat. Therefore, its residents joined in the “Eco-model Schlechinger Tal”, based on 4 pillars together: Preservation of the natural and cultural landscape, securing of farms, nature-friendly tourism and the expansion of environmentally friendly energies. Above all, near-natural farming plays a key role, with attention being paid to regional marketing. In Schlechingen, consumers still know that they are getting a natural, regional quality product. Own guidelines ensure honest production and marketing. This approach has spread to 9 other municipalities in the Achental and has developed into the eco-model Achental. The municipality of Schleching has already won several prizes for its efforts towards sustainability, including, for example: 2012 European Village Renewal Prize for holistic, sustainable and motto-based village development of outstanding quality 2011 Seal of approval “Sustainable Citizens’ Municipality Bavaria” 2007 Action program “Dorf vital” 2002 Bavarian Ministry of State honors Schleching as “Green Community” and manymore.
